Cory King is a Partner in the San Diego office of Fine, Boggs & Perkins LLP. His employment law practice focuses on both the “prevention side” of employment claims, as well as litigating all types of employment matters.
Mr. King regularly advises employers regarding effective methods to avoid employment-related claims, including preparation of employment agreements, drafting policies and procedures, training managers on “best practices,” and offering day-to-day advice to employers regarding a myriad of employment and wage/hour issues.
Mr. King has extensive experience handling claims and litigation before the EEOC, California DFEH and DLSE, and similar agencies in other states, as well as matters in private arbitration and the state/federal courts. Litigations matters he has handled include claims of unfair competition, trade secret misappropriation, harassment, discrimination, wrongful termination, whistleblower, breach of contract, wage/hour matters, and other employment-related claims.
Mr. King also is active in legislative issues affecting employers. He assisted in drafting pro-employer changes to the California’s version of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act (ICRA), and provided testimony before the California State Senate Judiciary Committee regarding those changes. He also participated in public hearings and provided comments to the Fair Employment and Housing Commission regarding proposed regulations governing mandatory supervisor sexual harassment training laws (AB1825).
Mr. King is a frequent lecturer to various business and employer groups around the country on labor and employment issues. He has conducted scores of workshops and seminars and spoken to numerous conventions and business groups.
Mr. King represents employers in a wide-range of industries, including financial institutions, high-tech companies, manufacturing companies, and construction companies, but has developed a special expertise in representing automobile dealerships, collision repair centers, and motorcycle dealerships. Mr. King’s experience in the industry as a salesperson and Sales Manager provides a unique and valuable dimension when representing automobile dealers. Mr. King also serves as labor and employment counsel for the California Autobody Association (CAA) and the California Motorcycle Dealers Association (CMDA). He also is active in the national Collision Industry Conference (CIC) and has served as Chair of its Human Resource Committee for several years.
Mr. King is a strong believer in “giving back” to the community. He has served as pro bono General Counsel to United Anglers of Southern California, a non-profit organization committed to preserving the marine environment, on the Board of Directors for a 900+ member Homeowners Association, on the Paralegal Advisory Board for the University of San Diego, and regularly speaks to local high school students about career choices and the law; and is active in the Boy Scouts of America where he currently serves as a District Chairman.
Mr. King received his J.D. from the University of San Diego, where he was a member and coach of the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition United States National Championship Team and elected to the Order of Barristers. He received his B.A. in Political Science, with a minor in Korean, from Brigham Young University. He also lived in South Korea for two years and speaks, reads and writes Korean. In addition to working his way through college working in auto dealerships, prior to obtaining his law degree, Mr. King worked alongside his father in the construction industry. His father, now retired, was a general contractor whose company built nearly 200 federal highway projects and other substantial concrete structures (dams, bridges, landing strips, tarmacs, etc.) throughout the western United States.
